After eight years as a leading cultural platform, "This Is Accra" faced a significant branding disconnect that threatened its relevance in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. The existing visual identity struggled to bridge the gap between its rich, historical storytelling roots and the fast-paced, aesthetic-driven world of modern social media. The primary challenge was to modernize the brand and professionalize its output without losing the authentic "soul" and urban grit that defined its connection to the capital city and its loyal community.

Creative Concept
The creative strategy was centered on the concept of "Refined Grit" a visual language that balances professional editorial standards with the raw energy of Accra’s streets. I developed a flexible design system that utilizes bold, high-contrast typography and a gritty, street-photography-inspired aesthetic to capture the city’s pulse. By moving away from static layouts toward a more dynamic, modular grid system, I ensured the brand could adapt to various content types from breaking news to cultural deep-dives; while maintaining a consistent and recognizable "This Is Accra" voice across all digital touchpoints.
Outcome
The brand refresh successfully revitalized the platform's presence, resulting in a more cohesive and professional aesthetic that immediately resonated with both long-time followers and new global audiences. This modernization provided the structural foundation for the brand to expand its reach, allowing it to compete as a top-tier digital media outlet while staying true to its mission of telling Accra's story.
